Learning to function in a society is a matter of figuring out
what you can and cannot do within the confines of that society. Our collective assumptions create our culture.

If you stay way with in the bounds less thought is involved. If you explore there is always a trade-off between trying new ideas and a society's reactions to anyone violating its precedents.

Our willingness to listen to and communicate what we want is important for creating a healthy society. If we can create a culture of trust, meaning we can trust each other to communicate what is going on for us, we can take much greater risks with each other because we know we will be warned before we go over the line.

Even though we may hold that information back with the best of intentions, we limit each other's freedom to act by withholding that information.

Therefore I am exploring open communication, not with the illusion that it will be perfect. I simply commit to listening to my fear, completing its message and going beyond it. My vision sees developing a culture that allows connection, information flow and autonomy to function at their most effective unified state.

I declare the Listening Institute to be an example for our clients and the community at large in courage and compassion. To listen to the questions that have frightened us and limited our growth.
